Jagannath Avatar is one of the 10 avatars of Lord Krishna. This has been considered in the history of India. Although the recognition of Jagannath Dev is more in the state of Odisha in South India, at present, his idol is worshiped in the temple of Jagannath Dev in every state across the country. Agartala, the capital of Tripura, has a temple of ancient Jagannath Dev in its heart. Which is named as Jagannath Jio Mandir.

Location

This temple is located in the heart of Agartala city. This temple of Jagannath Dev is built right or next to the Ujjayant Palace which is also located in Agartala.

Who build the temple?

Tripura was one of the longest princely states in India. And all the eye-catching art here has been built during that reign. Similarly, this Jagannath Jio temple was also built by a king at that time. The temple was built in the 19th century by the then Maharaja of Tripura, Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya.

Structure of the temple

This temple is built on an octagonal base. The Jagannath Jio temple has four floors. The temple is painted with bright orange color.
On entering the temple, the main temple will be seen first. Where the idol of Lord Jagannath is worshipped. Besides, in one part of the temple, everything from the birth of Lord Krishna to the killing of Kamsa, Rasalila is described in small statues. That is somewhat like a museum which has been decorated at one end of the temple for public display.

Special occasions

This Jagannath Jio temple is emotionally connected to millions of people in the state. Every day hundreds of people come to this temple to worship. Prasad is being served daily in the temple. At a particular time of the year, this Jagannath temple is witnessing an overflowing crowd of devotees. And that time is Rath Yatra.
During the Rath Yatra in the month of Asadha, Jagannath Dev took Subhadra and Balabhadra along with him and went to Masir Bari on the Rath. That festival is called Rath Yatra. And this festival is naturally celebrated in a grand ceremony in the state. But the biggest chariot is built from this Jagannath temple in the capital Agartala.
The temple authorities make three separate chariots for Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra Devi.

There is a beautiful lake inside the temple itself. In the middle of which there is a small temple. Every year before the Rath Yatra, Jagannath’s Snan Yatra and Chandan Yatra are organized across this lake. A large gathering of devotees takes place at this time. Devotees spend the day here dancing, singing the name of Sri Krishna, playing Dhak Dhol.

Other occasions

Apart from this, the Jagannath temple also organizes events such as rice ceremony, reverence etc. Prasad consumption is organized here daily. If you want, you can buy Bhog with the ticket. By the grace of Jagannath Dev, the Prasad of this temple is very dear to all the devotees. Therefore, the temple authorities arrange hundreds of prasads every day.

Jagannath Dighi

Just on the other side of the Jagannath Jio temple there is a huge lake. A part of which is directly connected with Rajbari i.e. Ujjayant Palace. The lake has already been renovated and a small park has been built here. Many people come to this park to spend their afternoon leisure time.
And due to the crowd of visitors and tourists in this temple and park, many small businessmen come here to earn an opportunity.
