Nathula The Beautiful Spot of Gangtok
Who does not like to go for a walk in the mountains? And if the guard has a sheet of white snow, then there is nothing more to say. Most of our North East Indian states are covered in hills. Hills and mountains are the most beautiful things that define these states. Not only North East India but the whole of India has innumerable tourist centers, which catches the attention of the audience. But North and North East India is the best to enjoy the beauty of mountains. And no one will deny it. Sikkim is a well-known hilly region among the 8 states of Northeast India. The hilly state is also very close to the world’s third highest peak i.e. Kanchenjunga.Tourists have great interest in traveling to Sikkim. The beauty of nature, mountains and weather attracts people a lot. Especially, Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim is always thronged with visitors throughout the year. Whenever we talk about Gangtok, we cannot forget to mention some places that are appreciated by all. In this article we give you a little description of these places.
WHICH ARE THE BEST PLACES TO VISIT?
The question may arise in your mind that what can be the main thing to see Gangtok? Since Gangtok is a major winter destination, on the one hand, the weather here is cold all year round, and everywhere you go, you will definitely see snow here. But there are many other things to see or know. There are many places to visit in Gangtok. Now here we give some details about the main three interesting places. These are Nathula Pass, Baba Mandir, Sumgo Lake. It was January, when we went to Gangtok. This was our first visit. Honestly, it was the best tour ever for us. Climate and weather of Sikkim is cool most of the year. Hence, people prefer to roam the streets of Sikkim and travel through snowy roads.
NATHU – LA
Nathu-la Pass is one of the highest points in Sikkim, with a winding route through the mountains. Nathu La Pass is located at a distance of 58.2 km from the main city Gangtok. It takes approximately 1 hour 37 minutes to reach Nathu La. This highest point is worth discussing for one reason. That is, this point is the junction of India and China. The China border is the right reason to visit Nathu La Pass here. The highly fortified place is fully manned by the Indian Army and soldiers.
At Nathula Pass, one has to cross strong winds to see the Chinese border. Also no photos or videos can be taken from this base. This is strictly prohibited for safety reasons.
If we talk about visitors, surely it will be countless. You can hire a car on sharing to cover this 58.2 km distance. Or you can also take a private car. The cost per person on sharing is Rs 800-1000. Costs for private vehicles may increase.
TSUMGO LAKE
Another fascinating place is Tusmogo Lake Darshan. It is located on the route we take for Nathula Pass. Sumgo Lake is considered a sacred lake by the local people of Sikkim. In ancient times, people believed that this lake had a divine power to end the pain and sorrow of the statesman. They worshiped here, prayed to God. Still this belief lives on in the hearts of the people of Sikkim. When we visited the lake, 70% of the water in the lake had frozen and turned into cold ice. Visitors enjoyed this beauty of nature. Such things are seen only in cold places like Sikkim, Himalayas, Manali etc. There was another piece of hot cake for us on top of the big chamri guy. We have never seen such beautiful beautiful cows. They are as peaceful as water.
BABA MANDIR (BABA HARVAJAN SINGH TEMPLE)
Baba Harbhajan Singh was an Indian soldier who died near Nathula Pass in East Sikkim. He was a brave soldier who lost his life in battle. Baba Mandir is built as a temple and dedicated to Baba Harbhajan Singh. This temple is surrounded by mountains and you will definitely see rocks covered by snow in the nearby mountains. A huge crowd is seen here as every single tourist wants to visit this holy place and pay respect to this solder. The temple is guarded by another solder and Baba Harbhajan Singh himself. People believe that his divine spirit is still here. He still guards the border. He is still performing his duties as an Indian solder which is a thrilling fact of this temple.
Last but not the least, these three special tourist spots made me enjoy every moment. These are the most ethnic and charming tourist spots in Gangtok that must be visited. Hope this article has given enough information about my trip to Nathula, Sumgo and Baba Mandir. Keep an eye on this website for more such informative articles.
