One of them is Nirmahal. It is also known as the second largest water palace in India. In 1930, Maharaja Bir Vikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur commissioned the British company Martin & Barnes to build this unique palace in the middle of the water. The lake standing above Nirmahal is called Rudrasagar. The distance between Rudrasagar and Agartala is 53 km. 24/7 bus, taxi, max etc. transport services are available towards Rudrasagar. Rudrasagar is located in Melaghar under Sipahijala district.

Neer Mahal is located in the middle of Rudra Sagar lake. Boat services are available on Rudra Sagar to go from Dighi Par to Neer Mahal. Various manual and engine driven boats are available here. In which there is a facility to transport 30 passengers at a time through engine driven boats. The ticket for the boat is 50 Rs. per person. After reaching Neer Mahal, you have to pay 30 Rs. for the ticket again at the entrance.

Neermahal was built by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur in 1930. In 1921 the work of making this palace has been started. It took 9 years to get ready for visit. That time Maharaja along with his dynasty used to spend quality times here in the summer season. This was actually made for this purpose. The cool and calm nature of this palace proves that reason was actually valid. Maybe you can’t even feel it when you go there.

This palace has two sides. The eastern side is built for cultural events like dance, drama, theater etc. The western part is called Andar mahal. The king and queen used to spend their private time indoors. This palace has 24 rooms. It also has a Royal Boat Wharf, a Watch Tower, Pavilion, Terrace etc. The dome-shaped minarets of this palace make it look like a fort. This palace was built with marble and sandstone materials which are very expensive.

The Dancing Room

In those days, various dancers used to perform dances in the festivities for the entertainment of the kings and maharajas. A separate room was built for this. A room was built in this hermitage and for exactly the same reason, which is named Dancing Room.

Bed Room

The bed chamber built for the king and his queen still exists today. Although, this is not very large in size. Most importantly, such rooms did not have doors in those days, which is impossible for us to think about today.
